Last weekend I had an adventure in Chicago. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency on East Wacker Drive which had an amazing view of the lake and river/canal. I decided to make a list of things not to miss in Chicago!
1. Museums! The only two worth seeing are the Field Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry. The Alder Museum and the Aquarium were a disappointment. The Alder Planetarium was small and had little no exhibits and the admission price was the most expensive from all the museums ($28), and is not worth it at all. The aquarium is nice, but it is overcrowded and has little viewing windows. On the other hand, the best was the Museum of Science and Industry. There is so much to see and do here, we spent 5 hours here. Many of the exhibits are interactive and allow children to easily understand scientific concepts. The MSI is located far downtown and you will need to take a bus to visit. The Field Museum is wonderful in that there are numerous rooms of animals to see; including hourly live animal exhibits (reflected my picture holding a tarantula!).
2. Water Taxis- Taking a water taxi in Chicago is a must. It’s the best way to see the city in a new light and you don’t have to worry about traffic!
3. Navy Pier– The Navy Pier has rides, food, music, beautiful scenery, and shopping. We rode the Ferris wheel a little after sunset to get an amazing view of the city at dusk.
4. Garrett’s Popcorn– OMG so good. We pigged out on popcorn the entire time there. The cheddar cheese popcorn is to die for.
5. Magnificent Mile– This is a section of Michigan Avenue that has high end dining, and designer stores. With stores like Marc Jacobs, Tiffany’s, Cartier it’s a fashionista’s dream. Bargains can be found at H&M, Filene’s Basement, Zara, and Forever 21. There a little something for everyone
6. Giordano’s Famous Stuffed Pizza– Get authentic Chicago deep dish pizza right across from the Willis Tower (formerly known as the Sears Tower). A small 10’ pizza should feed 3-4 people easily. Be ready for lots of cheese and yummyness.
7. Millennium Park– Comparable to Central Park, this park is full of architectural artwork. You can see the cloud gate (the mirror bean as I call it) and Buckingham Fountain in this park. It’s a nice walk and all the museums are located at one end of this park.
