I received a beautiful set of crystal coasters as a wedding present. Unfortunately, they didn’t really fit into the theme of my industrial chic home. I decided to give them a quick paint job in hopes that they would fit in. It was a super easy and quick. Now the coasters look fantastic with my furniture. I seriously loved the way it added a pop of color to my coffee table. My coffee table has a nice new upgraded look now!

crystal or glass coasters
glass paint (I used Vitrea 160 )
foam brush
fine brush
isopropyl alcohol
painters tape (optional)

1. Wipe the glass coasters with a paper towel and isopropyl alcohol to get all the dust and finger prints off of them.

2. Use painters tape to tape off any areas you don’t want to paint, if you want to paint the whole thing, skip this step.

3. Mix the the blue and black paint 1 part black to 3 parts blue. It give the crystal an aged, vintage look.  Paint the coasters with the 1st layer, now if you have a very strongly pigmented paint you might not have to add layers. However, I painted on 5 more layers in the end to get the color I have. I went over the crystal with a fine brush in between layers to smooth out areas where the paint pooled in the nooks and crannies of the crystal design.

4. Let your coasters dry overnight. The paint I used required me to bake them at 320 F for 40 minutes to make the paint permanent. It also darkened the color a bit as well. Read the directions to your paint to see if the paint needs to be set by heat. They came out like frosted vintage blue tinted coasters- so cute! Enjoy!
