Apple Tart | Milk and Cardamom

Apple Tart

Description

This apple tart is super simple and is made with pie dough, applesauce and apples!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • one 9-inch pie crust
  • 1/4 cup apples sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
  • pinch ground clove
  • pinch ground nutmeg
  • 3 apples, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, cubed
  • 2 tbsp apricot jam

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F
  2. Take the pie dough and press it into a 9-inch tart pan. Use a rolling pin to roll over the edges to get rid of any excess overhang.
  3. Dock the bottom and sides of the crust with a fork. Freeze for 10 minutes.
  4. Cover the frozen pie crust with foil and fill the foil with dried beans, rice or lentils so that it is completely filled.
  5. Bake the crust for 10 minutes. Remove the foil and dried beans, rice or lentils and bake the crust for 12 minutes at 350°F. Once it’s out of the oven, press down on any puffy parts with the bottom of a cup and cool completely.
  6. In a small bowl, mix together applesauce, brown sugar, and spices.
  7. Spread the mixture evenly over the bottom of the pie crust. Top with sliced apples and sprinkle evenly with sugar. Dot the top of the tart with butter and bake at 350°F for 20 minutes and then 400°F for 5 minutes.
  8. While the tart is warm, mix together the apricot jam and 1/2 tbsp of warm water. Brush the top of the apples to give it a shine. Enjoy while warm!
