Green Cleaning with Bon Ami

Disclaimer: This post is sponsored by Bon Ami.

Growing up my mom would use powder cleanser to clean our sink and bathtubs every weekend. When Bon Ami reached out about partnering together to show the benefits of their cleanser, it brought me right back to Saturday morning clean-ups, sprinkling Bon Ami onto the sink and bathtubs with my mom and letting it sit before scrubbing away.

Bon Ami is a green cleanser made with just 5 natural ingredients, none of which are harsh chemicals, so it’s safe around kids. It uses feldspar and limestone as gentle abrasives, soda ash and baking soda as alkali which helps dissolve dirt and grease, as well as alkylbenzene sulfonic acid, which is a mild surfactant/detergent which helps bind and remove grease from your pots and pans. As someone who did organic chemistry research for 5 years and graduated with a degree in Biochemistry, this really excited me to see just 5 simple ingredients in this product.

Lately, it feels like Elara wants to do everything I do (especially now that she’s home all day because of the quarantine), if I’m cooking she pulls up her stool, if I’m folding laundry, she is attempting it with me and if I’m doing the dishes she wants to do them too. I feel good knowing that Bon Ami is safe since it doesn’t have any harsh chemicals in it. She likes to sprinkle it onto my sponge before I wash any greasy pots or pans or onto the sink before I give it a good scrub.

I know green cleaners can have a bad reputation for not working as well, but let me tell you, this is so wrong when it comes to Bon Ami. I had a pan that had some serious grease stains on it that hasn’t come off after 4 washes so I made a little paste with Bon Ami, let it sit for 5 minutes and gave it a good scrub with some elbow grease and it was all gone!

I also use Bon Ami powder cleanser to clean my bathtubs, remove rust stains, get stains off my white counters (I can’t tell you how many times I’ve spilled turmeric or food dye onto them!), and my enamel cookware (i.e Le Creuset pans).  If you’re looking for a powder cleanser that does its job but is kid-safe and environmentally friendly, then Bon Ami is the best option!
