It’s almost Diwali and I’m ready to bring in the new year with some sweets! I like to take Indian flavors and make chocolate truffles instead of making the usual mithai like burfi or halwa. Here are some desserts that will wow your friends and family this Diwali!
1. Gulab Jamun
The quintessential Indian sweet- gulab jamuns! This recipe is easy to follow and you’ll have these sweet syrup soaked cardamom-spiced donuts in now time!
2. Kesar Mango and Rose Truffles
Skip the usual mithai this year and try making your own truffles! There is no other flavor, to me that screams Indian sweets more than mango and rose water. Especially kesar mangoes. You’ll definitely impress your guests with these truffles!
3. Chai Truffles
These truffles are filled with a creamy chai chocolate ganache that is super easy to make. All you need heavy cream and chocolate! If you don’t want to use a mold, no worries, you can just roll them out into small balls (like laddoos)!
4. Coconut Burfi Truffles
These truffles are like Mounds bars! I filled each chocolate shell with a mixture of coconut and cardamom. Simple flavors and easy to make!
5. Mango Rose Frangipane Tart
Frangipane is one of my favorite tart fillings- it reminds me of melted kaju katli (cashew fudge). It’s basically almond meal custard that has an amazing nutty floral flavor. The tart tastes like one of my favorite Indian desserts, mango halva, but with a modern fusion twist. If you’re planning on feeding a small crowd, this is perfect!
